Comedy in April
Our headline act is Steve Hall. Steve Hall is a stand-up comedian and writer. He is a regular writer on The Russell Howard Hour (Sky), and in 2017, he supported Russell on his international tour, Round the World. Steve previously supported Russell on his 2014 sell-out national tour, Wonderbox, along with his previous shows, Adventures, Dingledodies and Big Rooms And Belly Laughs. Steve’s Edinburgh Festival successes include his sell-out third show, Zebra –“for sheer unadulterated fun this Fringe, it’s hard to think of too many comedians who will offer the same glee” (The List).
Steve wrote on five series of Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC 2) as well as numerous other programmes, such as Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central (Comedy Central), A League of Their Own (Sky), The Russell Howard Hour (Sky) and The Now Show (BBC Radio 4), among others. He is a regular guest on The Frank Skinner Show on Absolute Radio and has appeared as a panellist on The Rest is History for BBC Radio 4.
Steve Hall was also one third of critically lauded sketch group We Are Klang – “They might be the perfect sketch troupe” (The Stage) – alongside Greg Davies and Marek Larwood. Steve wrote and starred in the group’s sitcom series for BBC 3 in 2009. We Are Klang were nominated for the Perrier Award for Best Show in 2006, and the Barry Award at 2007’s Melbourne Comedy Festival.
Opening the night is the quite wonderful Alan Hudson. An excellent stand up, after dinner magician and awards host, his funny magic act is a cheeky mix of comedy, magic and mind reading.
Using members of the audience as volunteers means every show is completely unique. Alan can guess a word someone is merely thinking of or reveal your Credit Card PIN code!. He’ll make a borrowed object (watch, ring or wallet) vanish in to thin air and then make it appear it in the most impossible of locations and much more.
Alan performs his after dinner cabaret act all over the world for numerous corporate clients. He’s performed for top companies and hotels in London, LA, Zurich, Amsterdam, Germany, Singapore and one of the few British performers at The Magic Castle in Hollywood, California. The Magic Circle themselves even chose Alan to represent them for their own flagship show The Magic Circle Christmas Show – a huge honour for any magician.
Also appearing will be the charming Jenny Collier. Jenny moved from the Welsh mountains to the Big Smoke in 2010 and has since embarked upon a career in stand up comedy. Highlight: Appearing on a BBC Radio Wales panel show with Jo Brand. Low point: After a gig, an audience member saying ‘You should be a stripper’ (Both secretly highlights).
She has written for BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz, Huffington Post and Glamour Magazine and has traveled (parts of) the world with her comedy. She has performed in Hong Kong, Philippines, Singapore, Switzerland and most recently in Australia where she won the Percy Award for most tickets sold in ‘The Imaginarium’, (over 1900 tickets) during the Adelaide Fringe.
In August 2016 she performed her debut hour at the Edinburgh Fringe, ‘Jen-Hur’ which received reviews such as ‘★★★★★ An Excellent comedic work’ – Edfest Mag and ‘★★★★ A brilliant show and well worth a watch’ – Arts Award Voice.
Our resident compere Scott Bennett will be your host for the evening.
