Putting the Hygge in Rutland
Blue Monday, as it’s commonly dubbed across the Northern Hemisphere, hits us next week.
It’s the Monday in the middle of January, between New Year’s Day and payday when we’re all skint, the weather is rubbish and the Winter is still stretching out before us.
But here at The Grainstore Brewery, we’re anything but blue.
The Danish art of hygge celebrates good food, a warming tipple, a cosy atmosphere and finding pleasure in the small things, which we’re all for in our little corner of Rutland.
So, here’s our list of hygge-worthy suggestions to celebrate the season in style at #TheGrainy.
Visit Rutland Water
We’re based in Oakham, just a couple of miles from the shores of Rutland Water, one of the country’s hidden gems and a great place to go and blow away the Winter blues.
We recommend a swift walk at Rutland Water Nature Reserve in Egleton before heading back to The Grainy for one of our freshly ground cups of coffee and a bowl of our homemade soup.
We’re dog and child friendly, so you can bring the whole clan.
Read a book by the log burner
Our log burner is the perfect place to curl up and shelter against the Winter weather.
Bring a book and enjoy the rustic atmosphere of our pub with a glass of red from our wine list, or grab a newspaper or magazine from the bar while you sip on a pint of our real ale, brewed on site.
Join the Grainy Club
The best way to make the most of The Grainstore is to join the Grainy Club. Members can collect points for every purchase and save them for a G(rainy) day and take advantage of our £1.99 a pint offer all day Monday and on Sundays from 6pm. And with 2 for 1 across the menu on weekday lunchtimes, Mondays are far from blue.
Take a brewery tour
Sit down to a platter of locally sourced nibbles and a jug of your favourite Grainstore beer after touring the brewery, which is right above the pub. We’ll talk you through our traditional methods of brewing and let you taste the difference for yourself…
Have a laugh
Laughter is the best cure and we’ll have you splitting a seam this Winter with our comedy nights. Join us on 26th January with a double header from Angela Barnes and Raymond and Mr Timpkins.
