New Head Brewer

Wil Wood has been named as the new head brewer after joining from Great Yarmouth based Lacons.

Wil Wood was previously head brewer at Lacons and Fyne Ales after spending his formative brewing years at nearby Oakham Ales.

At Grainstore he will be tasked with introducing a more ‘hop forward’ approach to a new range of ales being crafted with keg and can packaging in mind as well as maintaining the already excellent reputation for its range of classic English ales.

Many new challenges

“The brewing and pub industry are currently experiencing a vibrant yet tumultuous time with many new challenges and opportunities” he said. “Grainstore already has an excellent reputation for producing fine English ales with numerous awards won and I look forward to harnessing that reputation and building upon it to help deliver a successful future for the brewery and it’s existing and excitingly, future brands”

Grainstore’s stable of core brands include Ten Fifty, Cooking and Osprey which have been part of its range since inception in 1994. They are currently sold regularly across Rutland, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire alongside selected free houses nationwide. The brewery and its award-winning Tap currently employ 28 staff in both full and part time roles.

Work is already underway on expansion planning at Grainstore with further news on these plans to come during 2020.

Grainstore owner William Davis said “As we embark on a period of consolidation and then expansion, we are delighted to welcome Wil to the team. These are exciting and challenging times in the fiercely competitive brewing industry, but we look forward to meeting those challenges head on. We are now set to build upon our strong roots as a brewer of high-quality cask ales and further grow our brands across cask, keg and packaged categories”
