The Grainstore Brewery Tap opened its doors in September 1995 and today is recognised as one of the best brew pubs in Britain.
The combination of superb beers, brewed on the premises, and a traditional pub setting has proven to be a winner, earning the accolade of The Good Pub Guide ‘Own Brew Pub of the Year’ on no less than four occasions in 2003, 2011, 2014 and now 2016.
With regular live music, including Jazz, Blues, Rock and little bit of Pop, a whole host of traditional pub games such as Bottle Walking, Darts, Bar Billiards and Giant Jenga, regular Quizzes, promotions and Comedy Nights to occasionally, blind tastings, there is always something to see or do.
The Tap plays host to tours of the brewery by arrangement, and from the year 1999, every August, has been the home of the annual ‘Rutland Beer Festival’, featuring over 70 Real Ales and Ciders. 2010 witnessed the introduction of our Annual Cider and Sausage Festival in late May, which has gone on to establish itself as the best Cider Festival outside of the West Country.

With plenty of parking in the immediate vicinity, and Oakham Railway Station right next door, transport is never a problem.
After graduating from Herriot watt University in Edinburgh with a degree in lawn mowing (or some such nonsense), William immediately returned to Rutland to work in his fathers brewery, and has been here ever since. Now taking the reins from his father, the history and tradition of the Grainstore Brewery is in safe hands.Email William
Since leaving school and accidentally falling into the catering and hospitality trade via Polytechnic and a failed desire to become an Airline Pilot, Peter has gained a rounded knowledge and insight into most aspects of the industry. His interest in beer is founded entirely on a night out in Portsmouth in 1992 and an error in ordering at the bar.Email Peter
We are delighted to welcome Steve back to the Grainstore Brewery, with a wealth of experience in sales with wholesalers and brewers, as well as running bars and pubs, Steve brings enormous vitality and knowledge to the team.Email Steve
Bens history is littered with intrigue having spent some time growing up in Russia. Trained and qualified as a chef, Ben first joined the Brewery as our Taps Head Chef. His yearning to see more natural daylight (our kitchen has no windows), lead him to apply for an opening in our dray team in 2014. This lead to a well earnt position in our sales department.Email Ben
Richard has worked for The Grainstore Brewery for nearly ten years, occupying many roles in his time. Appointed in September of 2014 as our brewing team leader, he has risen to yet another challenge here. Putting the team through its paces every day is never a problem as Richard is also a fully qualified Personal Fitness Instructor!
Affectionately known at the brewery as the Cellar Goblin, Rory has an infectious personality. His limits know no bounds and his experience likewise. Rory is a fluent speaker of French, helpful when we are visited by a group from France on a brewery tour and he is also an avid collector of memorabilia (he even owns a bomb). Rory is in charge of official sampling.
Jack has had a long association with The Grainstore Brewery, having worked hard over the summer whilst still at college, and then on our bar at the Brewery Tap. Having been off to travel the world, and see the sights, he has returned to Rutland and to the brewery as the latest addition to our brewing team. Now a family man, he has settled well into the life of a hard working brewing assistant, learning the ropes from the bottom up!
Another long serving member of the team, Karl has been distributing our ales around the wilds of Rutland, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Nottinghamshire and beyond for over a decade. Karl has a great relationship with our customers as a result, and often predicts their needs before they do!
Ken is the most recent addition to our line up although many of our Tap customers will know him from working occasionally behind our bar. With a background as a haulier, Ken brings a wealth of driving experience to the team. His lovely little Irish accent completes the package along with his jovial demeanour. Just don’t call him a Leprechaun!
Joining in late 2014 as our new Head Chef, Dan had previously worked for the company at another outlet. The time was right for him to step up to position, one he has filled with relish (ha!). Calm under pressure and with a great knack for making chocolate desserts, Dan has been instrumental in the increased food service at the Tap. His Pies are awesome!
The longest serving member of staff at the Brewery Tap is Linda. Having been here almost since day one, Linda is almost part of the furniture. In fact she has been with us longer than most of the furniture! What Linda does not know about the workings of a Brewery Tap, probably isn’t worth knowing. She has even poured Prince Charles a pint of our finest.
Lorraine has worked for the Grainstore Brewery on and off for many years, having first joined us as a bar manager back in 2006. She then disappeared off to start her family, and has recently re joined in a part time role as a Bar Supervisor. Always displaying her broad smile, we are very pleased that Lorraine has come back to our team.
